OCM1A Cell Line

General Information
Organism Homo sapiens, human
Cell Line Description OCM1A is a human uveal melanoma cell line derived from a primary intraocular tumor. Uveal melanoma is the most common primary intraocular malignancy in adults, and OCM1A serves as a critical model for studying the biology of this specific cancer. The cell line exhibits a spindle-shaped or epithelial-like morphology and is characterized by its rapid growth and high metabolic activity. OCM1A is frequently used to investigate the molecular signaling pathways involved in ocular tumor progression, particularly those related to G-protein mutations (GNAQ/GNA11) and the MAPK pathway. It is also a valuable tool for testing the efficacy of targeted therapies and photodynamic therapies specifically designed for eye cancers.

Culture Conditions and Handling
Subculturing 1. Remove and discard the culture medium.
2. Briefly rinse the cell layer with PBS (without Ca2+/Mg2+) to remove all traces of serum.
3. Add 1.0 to 2.0 mL of 0.25% Trypsin - 0.53 mM EDTA solution and observe under an inverted microscope until the cell layer is dispersed (usually 3 to 8 minutes).
4. Add 6.0 to 8.0 mL of complete growth medium and gently pipette to obtain a single-cell suspension.
5. Aliquot cell suspension into new culture vessels.
Medium Renewal 2 to 3 times per week
Subcultivation Ratio A split ratio of 1:3 to 1:8 is recommended
Culture Conditions Atmosphere: Air, 95%; CO2, 5%; Temperature: 37°C
Cryopreservation Complete growth medium supplemented with 5% to 10% (v/v) DMSO
