C1498 Cell Line

General Information
OrganismMus musculus, mouse
Cell Line DescriptionIn 1941, scientists isolated C1498 cells from 10-month-old female C57BL/6 mice suffering from leukemia and injected them intravenously into syngeneic mice, causing them to suffer from acute leukemia. C1498 cells have always been a model for acute leukemia. There are many documents documenting the effects of highly proliferating C1498 cells injected into susceptible mice via intravenous, subcutaneous or peritoneal routes on hematopoietic organs such as blood, spleen and lymph nodes, as well as non-hematopoietic organs such as ovaries and kidneys. Earlier studies suggested that mouse models induce granulocytic leukemia or myelomonocytic leukemia. C1498 is a mouse leukemia cell line that can be used as an acute myeloid leukemia model. It has few cell surface hematopoietic markers and inhibits the hematopoietic function of normal mice by secreting soluble cytokines. C1498 cells express low levels of programmed cell death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) in the culture medium, but the expression of PD-L1 is significantly upregulated in vivo.

2. Studying the molecular mechanisms of leukemia
3. Testing potential cancer treatments
4. Studying the interaction between leukemia cells and the immune system
5. Assessing the efficacy of new treatments in preclinical studies

Additional InfoIn 2016, a study pointed out that after injecting C1498 cells into mice, many of the leukemia characteristics observed were the same as human acute myelomonocytic leukemia. Invading leukemia cells result in a depletion of mature and immature progenitor cells and precursor bone marrow hematopoietic cells, and C1498 cells are found at higher rates in the peripheral blood.
