MV4-11 Cell Line

General Information
OrganismHomo sapiens, human
Cell Line DescriptionThe MV-4-11 cell line, isolated from blasts from children with biphenotypic B myelomonocytic leukemia, is an important resource for the study of acute leukemias, particularly acute myeloid leukemia (AML). MV4-11 cells are characterized by a high proliferation rate and the presence of certain genetic abnormalities. A translocation between chromosomes 4 and 11 results in the generation of the MLL-AF4 fusion gene, which plays a critical role in leukemogenesis and contributes to the aggressive nature of leukemias. The presence of the MLL-AF4 fusion gene makes these cells particularly important for the study of understanding the molecular mechanisms of leukemogenesis and of targeted therapies aimed at disrupting the function of this oncogenic fusion protein. This cell line has further utility in metabolomic and transcriptomic studies, providing a comprehensive understanding of metabolic alterations and redox adaptations in leukemia.

Additional InfoThe MV4-11 cell line was established by Rovera and colleagues from blasts from a 10-year-old male with biphenotypic B myelomonocytic leukemia. The growth factor, granulocyte/macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF), is required for establishment of this cell line and is required for its continued proliferation in chemically defined media.
