Vero cells, a lineage established from the kidneys of African green monkeys, are widely used in vaccine production as well as virology research due to their susceptibility to infection by a wide range of viruses. These cells are advantageous in that they are adherent, have minimal aggregation, and grow to high cell densities, making them an ideal substrate for the production of viral vaccines, including poliovirus and influenza vaccines. However, one of the challenges of using Vero cells is the risk of residual host cell DNA being carried over into the final product.
