Claudin 18 is a tight junction protein that plays a critical role in the regulation of paracellular transport and maintenance of tissue homeostasis. The alpha 1 isoform of Claudin 18 has been found to be upregulated in various cancers, including gastric, pancreatic, and ovarian cancer, suggesting its potential role in tumorigenesis and progression. The Human CLDN18-A1 Stable HEK293T Cell Line can be used to study the function of hCLDN18-A1 and to investigate its role in cancer development and progression. The cell line has been characterized to ensure stable expression of hCLDN18-A1 and to minimize any unwanted effects from the HEK cell background. This cell line is a valuable tool for researchers in the field of claudin biology and may contribute to the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for cancer patients.
The Human CLDN18-A1 Stable HEK293T Cell Line is an invaluable resource for researchers investigating the role of Claudin 18 (CLDN18) in cell proliferation, migration, and apoptosis. This stable cell line, which overexpresses CLDN18, provides a controlled experimental system to study the functional significance of this tight junction protein in various physiological and pathological processes. One key application of the Human CLDN18-A1 Stable HEK293T Cell Line is in the exploration of the mechanisms underlying CLDN18’s role in cancer development and progression. By studying these cells, researchers can gain insights into how CLDN18 expression affects tumor cell behavior, including cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. Additionally, this cell line can be used to investigate the potential therapeutic implications of targeting CLDN18 in cancer treatment. By testing various compounds and drugs on these cells, researchers can identify potential inhibitors of CLDN18 function, which may serve as novel anti-cancer agents. Furthermore, the Human CLDN18-A1 Stable HEK293T Cell Line can also be employed to study the role of CLDN18 in other diseases, such as neurodegenerative disorders and inflammation, as CLDN18 has been found to be dysregulated in these conditions.
Customer Q&As
What is the significance of the CLDN18-A1 gene in human health?

A: The CLDN18-A1 gene is significant in human health as it provides instructions for making the claudin-18 protein, which is essential for the proper structure and function of tight junctions. Tight junctions are critical for maintaining the integrity of the barriers between cells in various tissues, including the digestive system and blood-brain barrier.

How does the claudin-18 protein contribute to the blood-brain barrier?

A: The claudin-18 protein helps to establish and regulate the blood-brain barrier by forming tight junctions between the endothelial cells that line the brain's blood vessels. This barrier restricts the passage of substances from the bloodstream into the brain, protecting it from potentially harmful compounds and maintaining a stable environment for neuronal function.

What are the potential implications of CLDN18-A1 gene mutations?

A: Mutations in the CLDN18-A1 gene can lead to dysfunctional tight junctions, which may result in increased tissue permeability and contribute to various disorders. For example, autosomal dominant medullary cystic kidney disease, type 1D (MCKD1D), is associated with mutations in this gene, leading to kidney dysfunction and eventual failure.

How is the expression of the CLDN18-A1 gene regulated in different tissues?

A: The expression of the CLDN18-A1 gene is tightly regulated in a tissue-specific manner. It is influenced by various factors, including developmental cues, cellular signaling pathways, and the presence of other proteins that interact with claudin-18. This regulation ensures that the claudin-18 protein is expressed in the appropriate tissues and at the right levels to maintain proper barrier function.
