Genomic DNA essentially refers to the DNA content of an organism's complete set of chromosomes. It is the "genetic material" that carries the comprehensive instructions for an organism to grow, develop, function and even reproduce. In forensics, genomic DNA can help identify the biological origins involved in crime scenes—an important breakthrough in solving or breaking a crime. Consequently, the genomic DNA purification process has become a critical aspect of forensic practice.
Creative Biogene's Forensic Samples Genomic DNA Purification Kits are designed for the preparation of high-purity genomic DNA from small quantities of forensic samples (e.g. buccal swabs, blood spots, semen samples, cigarette filters). These ready-to-use kits contain the necessary reagents to efficiently produce starting material for applications such as case studies, forensic testing, STR analysis, and human identification. Lysis is achieved by incubating the sample in a solution containing chaotropic ions in the presence of proteinase K. The kit can process single or multiple samples simultaneously. No phenol/chloroform extraction is required and time-consuming steps such as precipitation with isopropanol or ethanol are eliminated. The isolated DNA is extremely pure and suitable for analysis in PCR and real-time PCR, genotyping, sequencing (NGS), oncology or pharmacogenomics research, and other typical applications. It is also compatible with direct PCR analysis.
