DENV ORF Clones
Dengue virus infection is a major global health problem, infecting an estimated 50-100 million people each year. With no vaccine or antiviral therapy available, Dengue virus (DENV) causes a variety of clinical outcomes ranging from asymptomatic infection to undifferentiated fever, classic dengue fever (DF) or dengue hemorrhagic fever/dengue shock syndrome (DHS/DSS). DENV belongs to the Flavivirus genus of the Flaviviridae family of enveloped viruses. Flaviviruses are small (about 50 nm), enveloped, single-stranded positive-sense RNA viruses. Their genomes range in size from 10.5 to 11 kb and consist of a single open reading frame (ORF) flanked by 5' and 3' untranslated regions (UTRs) of approximately 100 nucleotides and 500 nucleotides respectively that form specific secondary structures required for genome replication and protein translation. Translation of ORFs results in the synthesis of polyproteins that are cleaved by host and viral proteases to release structural and nonstructural viral proteins.
