SARS-CoV-1 ORF Clones
Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 1 (SARS-CoV-1), formerly known as severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV), is a strain of coronavirus that causes severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS). It usually causes severe illness, initially characterized by systemic symptoms such as muscle pain, headache, and fever, followed within 2-14 days by respiratory symptoms, primarily cough, dyspnea, and pneumonia.
SARS-CoV-1 is an enveloped, positive-sense, single-stranded RNA virus that infects lung epithelial cells. The virus enters host cells by binding to angiotensin-converting enzyme 2. It infects humans, bats and civets. Their virions are approximately 120-160 nm. The sequence size of the complete SARS-CoV-1 genome is approximately 29,000 nucleotides, consisting of 14 ORFs encoding 27 proteins. Notably, the first ORF (ORF1a/b) translates two-thirds of the entire genome and contributes to the formation of the polyproteins pp1a and pp1ab, responsible for the replication and transcription machinery. The remaining ORFs encode structural and accessory proteins that help the virus establish successful infection in the host.
Combining unique and versatile cloning technologies, Creative Biogene has created a large number of high-quality SARS-CoV-1 ORF clones. Premade ORF clones eliminate the initial cloning and validation procedures for gene discovery studies. There is no need to perform tedious RNA isolation, cDNA synthesis, cloning, sequencing, and validation procedures steps. The generation of cloned ORFs not only helps define the functional role of each encoded protein but also aids in the development of antiviral therapies. Importantly, SARS-CoV-1 ORF clones enable researchers to simulate realistic scenarios of viral replication in a controlled environment and are manufactured for better visualization and understanding through replication sequencing.
