HeV ORF Clones
Hendra virus (HeV) is a member of the genus Henipavirus in the family Paramyxoviridae. HeV is a bat-borne virus associated with highly lethal infections in horses and humans. Many disease outbreaks in Australian horses are caused by Hendra virus. Symptoms of Hendra virus infection in humans may be respiratory symptoms, including hemorrhage and edema of the lungs, or in some cases viral meningitis. In horses, infection typically causes one or more pulmonary edema, congestion, and neurological signs.
The HeV genome structure is similar to viruses found in the genera Respirovirus and Morbillivirus. A striking molecular feature of Henipavirus is its large genome compared with other paramyxoviruses: HeV has 18,234 nucleotides. The genomic RNA of henipavirus is encapsidated by a nucleoprotein (N), a phosphoprotein (P), and an RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (large protein; L), which is also a minority protein of the nucleocapsid.
