CHO-K1 is an established epithelial-like cell line derived from the ovary of the Chinese hamster (Cricetulus griseus). Today, it stands as one of the most widely utilized mammalian cell platforms across the fields of biomedical research, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical development. The popularity of CHO-K1 cells stems from their robust growth characteristics, a relatively stable karyotype compared to many transformed cell lines, adaptability to diverse culture conditions, and high compatibility with genetic engineering technologies. This cell line can be cultured under standard mammalian cell culture conditions and frequently serves as a host system for studies involving recombinant protein expression, receptor biology, signal pathway analysis, and biopharmaceutical production. The CHO-K1 Luciferase Reporter Cell Line is an engineered derivative of the parental CHO-K1 line, modified to stably express a luciferase reporter gene. Because the luciferase gene has been integrated and stably maintained within the cell population, this reporter cell line generates a consistent and reproducible luminescent signal output upon the addition of an appropriate substrate.

The CHO-K1 Luciferase Reporter Cell Line finds broad application in various research and drug discovery projects. One of its primary applications lies in the development of reporter gene assays, wherein luciferase activity serves as a quantitative readout for promoter activation, transcription factor activity, intracellular signaling, or signal pathway modulation. Given that luminescence-based detection technologies typically offer the advantages of high sensitivity and low background noise, this cell line is particularly well-suited for screening compounds capable of activating or inhibiting specific biological responses. In the realm of drug discovery and development, CHO-K1-Luc cells provide robust support for high-throughput screening campaigns targeting small molecules, biologics, antibodies, peptides, or other potential therapeutic agents. The stable luciferase signal enables researchers to efficiently compare different treatment groups and to assess dose-dependent effects with exceptional assay reproducibility.
