AKR is a murine suspension cell line used in experimental cell-tracking and imaging studies. Luciferase Reporter Cell Line - AKR is an engineered derivative that stably expresses a luciferase reporter gene. When the cells are exposed to the corresponding luciferin substrate, the enzyme-catalyzed reaction produces measurable bioluminescence. Because mammalian tissues generate little intrinsic light, luciferase-based assays generally offer low background and sensitive detection. The product is supplied as a suspension culture and has been reported to retain stable reporter expression for at least ten passages, making it suitable for experiments that require repeated expansion and reproducible signal measurement.

The cell line provides a convenient way to follow AKR cells in both culture-based assays and animal studies. In vitro, luminescence can be used as a surrogate readout for relative cell abundance, proliferation, survival, and treatment-associated cytotoxicity after the relationship between cell number and signal intensity has been established. This makes the model applicable to compound screening, dose–response analysis, immune-cell killing assays, and evaluation of candidate lymphoma-directed treatments. In vivo, bioluminescence imaging may support longitudinal monitoring of cell distribution, engraftment, and disease progression in compatible mouse models, allowing the same animal to be assessed at multiple time points. The reporter system can also aid studies of tissue infiltration and treatment response that are difficult to evaluate through external measurements alone.
