The somatostatin receptor type 2 (SSTR2) is a G protein-coupled receptor encoded by the SSTR2 gene located on chromosome 17q25.1 in humans. This transmembrane protein serves as the primary receptor for the endogenous neuropeptide somatostatin, which exists in two bioactive forms, somatostatin-14 and somatostatin-28. SSTR2 is widely expressed in normal tissues including the pancreas, cerebrum, kidney, and gastrointestinal tract, where it mediates the inhibition of hormone secretion, cell proliferation, and neurotransmission through the suppression of adenylyl cyclase and calcium channel activity. Notably, SSTR2 is frequently overexpressed in a variety of tumors, particularly neuroendocrine tumors, pituitary adenomas, and certain solid malignancies, making it an important clinical biomarker and therapeutic target. The Human SSTR2 Stable Cell Line-HEK293 is a genetically engineered cell line derived from HEK293 cells that stably expresses the human SSTR2 receptor on the cell surface, enabling consistent and reproducible receptor-mediated signaling for drug discovery and research applications.

This cell product serves as a valuable tool for a wide range of applications in biomedical research and pharmaceutical development. The stable cell line is commonly used in functional assays to study SSTR2-mediated signaling pathways, including the inhibition of cAMP accumulation, activation of phosphotyrosine phosphatases, and regulation of mitogen-activated protein kinase activity. It is also extensively employed for the screening and characterization of somatostatin analogs and selective SSTR2 ligands, such as octreotide, lanreotide, and pasireotide, which are clinically relevant for the treatment of acromegaly and neuroendocrine tumors. Additionally, the cell line can be utilized in receptor binding studies, internalization assays, and G protein coupling analysis to evaluate the potency and efficacy of novel therapeutic candidates. The stable expression system ensures high receptor density and functional consistency across passages, making it suitable for high-throughput screening campaigns, lead optimization, and pharmacological profiling in the development of targeted radiopharmaceuticals and peptide-drug conjugates for cancer therapy.

High-Quality Product

This SSTR2 stable cell line has simplified our somatostatin receptor experiments. The HEK293 background was easy to work with, and stable receptor expression eliminated the need for repeated transfection. The product is well suited to ligand profiling, concentration-response studies, and preliminary evaluation of SSTR2 modulators.
