Background
Hyperpolarization-activated, cyclic nucleotide-modulated (HCN) channels contribute to rhythmic spontaneous electrical activity in the heart and CNS. Interference with HCN2 activity can lead to various forms of cardiac arrhythmias, due to dysfunction of the sinus node. The predominant role of HCN2 in these cells may be the stabilization of a normal diastolic membrane potential.
