The endothelin receptor type B (EDNRB) is a G protein-coupled receptor that plays a key role in various physiological processes, including vascular development, neural crest cell migration, and pigmentation. It is primarily activated by endothelin peptides (ET-1, ET-2, and ET-3), which regulate vasoconstriction, cell proliferation, and tissue differentiation. Mutations in the EDNRB gene are associated with human diseases such as Hirschsprung''s disease (a congenital disorder characterized by loss of intestinal ganglia) and Waardenburg syndrome (a disorder affecting pigmentation and hearing). Due to its involvement in these pathways, EDNRB has emerged as a potential therapeutic target for cardiovascular disease, cancer, and neurodevelopmental disorders.
Human EDNRB virus-like particles (VLPs) are non-infectious nanostructures designed to mimic the native EDNRB receptor, providing a powerful tool for research and therapeutic applications. VLPs are self-assembled particles composed of the EDNRB protein or its epitopes and are typically expressed in systems such as yeast, insect, or mammalian cells. Unlike traditional viral vectors, VLPs do not contain genetic material, making them safer for vaccine development, drug delivery, and molecular research. EDNRB VLPs can be genetically engineered to display receptor domains, enabling high-throughput screening of ligands or inhibitors. They can also serve as immunogens to generate antibodies for diagnostic purposes or as decoys to modulate endothelin signaling pathways.
