CCR1 (C-C chemokine receptor type 1) is a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) that plays a key role in the immune system by mediating leukocyte migration and inflammatory responses. It binds to multiple chemokines, including CCL3 (MIP-1α), CCL5 (RANTES), and CCL7 (MCP-3), thereby regulating the trafficking of immune cells, particularly monocytes, neutrophils, and lymphocytes. CCR1 is involved in numerous physiological and pathological processes, such as infection defense, autoimmune diseases (such as multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis), and cancer metastasis. Due to its involvement in inflammatory pathways, CCR1 has become a promising therapeutic target for modulating immune responses.

CCR1 virus-like particles (VLPs) are non-infectious, self-assembling nanostructures that mimic the conformation and antigenic properties of the native CCR1 receptor. VLPs are constructed by expressing CCR1 and viral structural proteins (such as HIV Gag or hepatitis B core antigen) without the presence of viral genetic material. These particles retain the ability to present CCR1 in its native membrane-bound state, making them valuable for antibody production, receptor-ligand interaction studies, and vaccine development. CCR1 VLPs offer several advantages: they are safe (non-replicating), highly immunogenic, and can be purified on a large scale. Potential applications include: (1) generating monoclonal antibodies for diagnostic or therapeutic applications, (2) screening for small molecule inhibitors targeting CCR1, and (3) developing vaccines against CCR1-driven diseases, such as autoimmune diseases. Furthermore, their particle properties may enhance uptake by antigen-presenting cells, potentially enhancing the immune response of vaccine formulations.
Customer Q&As
How are human CCR1 virus-like particles different from the actual virus?

A: While these particles mimic the structure of the actual virus, they do not contain any viral genetic material, thus, they cannot replicate or cause infections like the actual CCR1 virus.

How are human CCR1 virus-like particles used in research?

A: These particles are used in research to study the behaviors of the CCR1 virus, it's interaction with human cells, and to potentially develop new therapeutic strategies. They are also used in vaccine development due to their ability to trigger an immune response similar to the actual viruses they mimic.
