Co-injection with HSV1-ΔTK limits viral replication to Cre-expressing starter neurons and restricts spread to one synapse. The red mCherry reporter allows starter cells to be identified and distinguished from green anterograde or retrograde labels, supporting multi-colour anterograde monosynaptic tracing.
