Co-injected with HSV1-ΔTK, it complements the deleted TK gene in Cre-expressing cells, restricting replication and transsynaptic spread to defined starter neurons. The CMV promoter drives strong expression across most cell types, making this vector suitable for anterograde monosynaptic tracing where ubiquitous expression is preferred.
