Product Information

Cat. No. RMK-L001
Description Creative Biogene's EZ Random Mutagenesis Kit is designed for performing PCR-based random mutagenesis on a DNA sequence of interest. This kit contains an optimized Taq PCR system which is able to reliably amplify DNA fragments of up to 4 kb in length and provide mutation rates from 2 to 8 mutations per kb. This kit is ideal for studying, altering, or improving wild-type protein function.
Sample Type DNA
Features • Controlled random mutagenesis: you can select the desired rate of mutation by choosing from a set of predefined experimental conditions.
• Amplification of large PCR fragments: the kit has been confirmed amplification of fragments up to 4 kb in length. Theoretically, longer fragments can be mutated and amplified as well.
• High DNA yields.
Applications • Random mutagenesis;
• Study of protein structure-function relationships;
• improve or alter the characteristics of wild-type proteins;
Storage Store at -20°C. When stored as directed, the product is stable for one year.

Customer Q&As
What is the difference between random and directed mutagenesis?

A: In random mutagenesis, the mutation occurring on the DNA site is random. Any random site can be chosen for mutation. In site-directed mutagenesis, the site of mutation is on the specific target sites.

Why is random mutagenesis important?

A: Mutagenesis is an important technique in protein engineering to alter properties such as thermal stability, pH optimum, and specific activity, or to understand the structure-function relationships of a target protein.

How to achieve random mutagenesis?

A: This can be achieved by treating DNA or whole bacteria with various chemical mutagens, by passing cloned genes through mutator strains, by "error-prone" PCR mutagenesis, by rolling circle error-prone PCR, or by saturation mutagenesis.
