The SREBF2 (sterol regulatory element binding transcription factor 2) gene encodes a key transcription factor that regulates cholesterol homeostasis and lipid metabolism. As a member of the sterol regulatory element binding protein (SREBP) family, SREBF2 primarily controls the expression of genes involved in cholesterol biosynthesis and uptake, such as HMG-CoA reductase and LDL receptor.
