Human embryonic kidney 293 cells, also commonly referred to as HEK 293, HEK-293, 293 cells, are an immortalized cell line derived from HEK cells isolated from female fetuses in the 1970s. These cells were originally extracted from human embryonic kidney cells by Dutch scientist Alex van der Eb in 1973 and subsequently transformed by exposing them to adenovirus type 5 DNA, which allows them to proliferate indefinitely in culture. This immortalization process imparts unique properties to the HEK293 cell line, making it very useful in a wide range of experimental applications. Researchers can introduce specific genes into HEK293 cells to study their function, regulation, and the effects of mutations. In addition, the ability of these cells to express high levels of proteins makes them a popular choice for pharmaceutical companies working on the production of therapeutic proteins and monoclonal antibodies. In the field of biotechnology and biopharmaceutical manufacturing, it is of paramount importance to ensure the purity and safety of products intended for human use. One of the main contaminants of concern in biological products, especially those derived from cell lines, is residual host cell DNA (HCD). Among the various cell lines used in production, HEK293 cells are widely used due to their high transfection efficiency and strong protein expression ability. However, the presence of residual DNA from these cells in the final product poses potential safety risks, including carcinogenicity and immunogenicity. Therefore, quantification of residual HEK293 DNA is a key quality control measure during the manufacturing process. The Residual DNA Quantification Kit-HEK293 is designed to meet this need, providing a sensitive and accurate method to detect and quantify trace amounts of residual DNA from HEK293 cells in biological products.
