The OV-90 cell line is a highly characterized human model of high-grade serous ovarian carcinoma (HGSOC), originally isolated from the malignant cellular ascites of a patient. It is extensively utilized in gynecological oncology because it faithfully captures the complex genomic instability and molecular landscape—most notably the ubiquitous TP53 mutation—that are characteristic of advanced, clinically aggressive ovarian cancers. The GFP/Luc Reporter Cell Line - OV-90 is a sophisticated, stably transfected derivative explicitly engineered to simultaneously co-express both Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP) and firefly luciferase (Luc). This robust dual-labeling construct ensures continuous, high-level expression of both functional reporter genes across sequential in vitro passages. Crucially, this stable genetic integration is achieved without compromising the fundamental morphological characteristics, the distinct genomic profile, or the intrinsic tumorigenic capacity of the original parental OV-90 cells.

The incorporation of this dual-reporter system significantly broadens the experimental utility of the OV-90 model for comprehensive translational ovarian cancer research. For in vitro studies, the distinct GFP expression allows researchers to easily visualize cellular dynamics, accurately quantify proliferation rates, and isolate specific cellular subpopulations using standard fluorescence microscopy and flow cytometry techniques. For in vivo applications, the robust luciferase activity serves as the optimal foundation for non-invasive, longitudinal tracking of tumor progression and metastatic dissemination through bioluminescence imaging (BLI). Because it is a human-derived cell line, the OV-90-GFP/Luc model is typically engrafted into immunocompromised mice (such as athymic nude or NSG strains) to establish reliable subcutaneous xenografts or clinically relevant intraperitoneal models that accurately mimic ascites formation and widespread peritoneal carcinomatosis. This specialized reporter line represents an exceptionally valuable platform for evaluating the in vivo therapeutic efficacy of novel chemotherapeutic regimens, targeted pharmacological compounds such as PARP inhibitors, and emerging biotherapeutics, facilitating the real-time, accurate quantification of localized tumor burden and disseminated disease in living subjects.

Reliable Tool

We used OV-90-GFP/Luc cells to establish an intraperitoneal ovarian cancer model, and the results were outstanding. The bioluminescence imaging allowed us to track tumor burden non-invasively over time with high sensitivity. The cell line arrived healthy, with excellent viability upon thawing. Highly professional service from Creative Biogene.
