| Description | Non-infectious ONNV virus-like particles consist of E1, E2 and Capsid proteins. The VLPs are produced in HEK293 cells. |
| Background | "O’nyong’nyong virus (ONNV) is a togavirus (family Togaviridae), genus Alphavirus, is closely related to the chikungunya and Igbo Ora viruses, and is a member of the Semliki Forest antigenic complex. The ONNV genome is a positive-sense, single-stranded, nonsegmented RNA of ~11.7 kb which replicates exclusively in the cytoplasm of infected cells. ONNV can infect humans and may cause disease. The virus was first isolated in June 1959 from serum samples from febrile patients in the northern province of Uganda. |

A: The O'nyong'nyong VLP product is a synthetic particle that mimics the structure and behavior of the O'nyong'nyong virus, a mosquito-borne pathogen causing fever and joint pain. It allows researchers to study the virus and its mechanisms without the need for live, infectious viral material.
A: Using the O'nyong'nyong VLP product eliminates the need to handle infectious live virus material, mitigating the associated safety risks. Moreover, it allows researchers to work with a standardized and reproducible research tool, ensuring consistent results across experiments.
