Description

The SLCO1B1 gene encodes the organic anion transporter OATP1B, which plays an important role in the hepatocellular uptake of a variety of endogenous compounds and drugs. An SLCO1B1 variant with a C allele at nucleotide position rs4149056 has been associated with altered pharmacokinetics of the cholesterol-lowering drug simvastatin, as well as with an increased risk of myopathy during simvastatin therapy.
