CCR6 (C-C chemokine receptor type 6) is a G protein-coupled receptor primarily expressed on immune cells, including dendritic cells, B cells, and T cell subsets, particularly Th17 cells and regulatory T cells (Tregs). It plays a key role in immune responses by binding to its only known ligand, CCL20 (also known as MIP-3α). The CCR6-CCL20 axis is crucial for coordinating the migration of immune cells to sites of inflammation, such as mucosal surfaces, and has been implicated in autoimmune diseases, infections, and cancer metastasis. Due to its selective expression and functional importance, CCR6 has emerged as a promising therapeutic target.

CCR6 virus-like particles (VLPs) are non-infectious nanostructures designed to mimic the native conformation of CCR6 on the viral envelope. These VLPs are constructed by incorporating CCR6 into self-assembling viral proteins that form an empty shell devoid of genetic material. These particles retain the native structure and function of the receptor, making them ideal for studying receptor-ligand interactions, immune regulation, and targeted therapies. Unlike live viruses, CCR6 VLPs are non-replicating and intrinsically safe, reducing the risks associated with traditional viral vectors. They are particularly valuable in vaccine development, serving as vehicles for delivering antigens to CCR6-expressing immune cells and enhancing immune responses. Furthermore, CCR6 VLPs may facilitate the exploration of the role of CCR6 in diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, and HIV, where CCR6-mediated pathways are dysregulated.
Customer Q&As
What are human CCR6 virus-like particles?

A: CCR6 virus-like particles refer to molecules that resemble the human CCR6 virus. They might not actually contain the virus or be infectious, but they closely mimic the structure, mechanisms, or characteristics of the virus.

What is the function of CCR6 in the human body?

A: CCR6 is not a virus but a protein found on the surface of certain types of cells in the immune system. It plays a role in controlling the migration and functioning of these cells, particularly in the context of inflammatory and immune responses.
