GFP Labelled Human Parainfluenza Virus Type 1

For research use only. Not intended for any clinical use.
Cat.No.
OTV-003
Description
Human parainfluenza virus type 1 (PIV1) is an enveloped, non-segmented, single-stranded, negative-sense RNA virus which belongs to the subfamily Paramyxovirinae within the Paramyxoviridae family. Human PIV1 can cause severe respiratory tract disease in infants and young children. This virus is an engineered recombinant Human PIV1 expressing the green fluorescent protein (GFP). It can replicate as efficiently as its parental strain in host cells which allows researchers to use it as an efficient tool for studying Human PIV1. This virus should be handled in BSL2 facilities.

Human parainfluenza virus type 1 (HPIV-1) is an important cause of respiratory tract infections, especially in young children, immunocompromised individuals, and the elderly. HPIV-1 belongs to the family Paramyxoviridae and is an enveloped, negative-sense, single-stranded RNA virus. Clinically, HPIV-1 is most notorious for causing croup (laryngotracheobronchitis), especially in children aged 6 months to 3 years. Croup is characterized by a distinct barking cough, hoarseness, and wheezing, which can be alarming to parents and may require medical evaluation. In addition to croup, HPIV-1 can cause bronchiolitis, pneumonia, and other upper and lower respiratory tract infections. Green fluorescent protein (GFP)-tagged human parainfluenza virus type 1 (HPIV-1) is a powerful tool in virology and molecular biology. By tagging HPIV-1 with GFP, researchers can visually track the virus life cycle and interactions within host cells, providing insights into its pathogenesis. Originally derived from the Aequorea victoria, GFP is a bioluminescent protein that emits bright green fluorescence when exposed to UV or blue light. This fluorescence allows real-time monitoring of viral infection and replication processes in living cells using fluorescence microscopy.
Customer Q&As
What is the parainfluenza virus type 1?

A: Parainfluenza virus type 1, also known as PIV-1, is a respiratory virus belonging to the Paramyxoviridae family. It is one of the four types of parainfluenza viruses that commonly cause respiratory infections in humans, particularly in children.

How many types of human parainfluenza viruses are there?

A: There are four types of human parainfluenza viruses: HPIV-1, HPIV-2, HPIV-3, and HPIV-4.
