Norovirus-Like Particle (GII.4)

For research use only. Not intended for any clinical use.
Cat.No.
VLP-0011
Description
Non-infectious Norovirus GII.4 VP1 Virus-Like Particles consist of VP1 structural protein without genome. The VLPs are produced in HEK293 cells.
Background
Noroviruses (NoV) are a genetically diverse group of single-stranded positive-sense RNA, non-enveloped viruses belonging to the family Caliciviridae. Noroviruses can genetically be classified into at least seven different genogroups (GI, GII, GIII, GIV, GV, GVI, and GVII), which can be further divided into different genetic clusters or genotypes. Noroviruses contain a linear, non-segmented, positive-sense RNA genome of approximately 7.5 kilobases, encoding a large polyprotein which is cleaved into six smaller non-structural proteins (NS1/2 to NS7) by the viral 3C-like protease (NS6), a major structural protein (VP1) of about 58~60 kDa and a minor capsid protein (VP2).

Customer Q&As
What is a Norovirus-Like Particle (GII.4) product and how is it useful?

A: Norovirus-Like Particle (GII.4) products are synthetic virus-like particles that mimic the structure and characteristics of the GII.4 strain of norovirus. These particles are produced in a laboratory setting and do not contain any live virus, making them safe for handling.

Are Norovirus-Like Particle (GII.4) products suitable for diagnostic purposes?

A: Yes, Norovirus-Like Particle (GII.4) products can be employed in diagnostic assays for the detection and identification of norovirus infections. These particles closely resemble the actual virus and can be used as target antigens in diagnostic tests, such as ELISA or lateral flow immunoassays. By utilizing these synthetic particles, researchers and clinicians can accurately detect and differentiate GII.4 norovirus infections, aiding in rapid diagnosis and appropriate patient management.

Can Norovirus-Like Particle (GII.4) products be used for vaccine development against norovirus?

A: Absolutely, Norovirus-Like Particle (GII.4) products are valuable tools in the development and evaluation of potential norovirus vaccines. Since they mimic the structure and surface proteins of GII.4 norovirus strains, they can be utilized as safe and effective immunogens to stimulate an immune response. Researchers can use these particles to elicit and assess protective antibody responses in preclinical studies, paving the way for the development of effective vaccines to combat norovirus infections.
