MIA PaCa-2 is a human pancreatic cancer cell line widely used in pancreatic cancer research and therapeutic development. In 1977, MIA PaCa-2 cells were derived from cancer in a 65-year-old man. These cells display CK5.6, AE1/AE3, E-cadherin, vimentin, chromogranin A, synaptophysin, SSTR2, and NTR1, but not CD56. This cell line is commonly used as a model system in cancer research to study the properties and behavior of pancreatic cancer cells and for drug screening and development. GFP Stable Cell Line - MIA PaCa-2 is engineered to stably express GFP. Originally isolated from Aequorea victoria, GFP is a luminescent protein that exhibits bright green fluorescence when exposed to light in the blue to ultraviolet range. When inserted into cells, the protein essentially makes the cells glow, which helps them be tracked more easily under a fluorescence microscope. The MIA PaCa-2 GFP stable cell line combines the unique qualities of the parent cell line, such as high levels of transfection efficiency and growth robustness, with the unparalleled advantages of fluorescent proteins. GFP integration provides a visual aid that researchers can use to scrutinize cellular components, track the dynamic movement of cells, and study genetic regulation within cells.
The MIA PaCa-2 cell line stably expressing green fluorescent protein (GFP) has multiple applications in biomedical research. 1) Visualization and tracking: The GFP stable cell line - MIA PaCa-2 can be used to visually track cells under a fluorescence microscope. This allows researchers to observe cell movement, growth and death in real time. 2) Gene expression studies: This cell line can be used to study the effects of genetic manipulation on cells. For example, by observing the expression of GFP, researchers can determine whether a specific gene has been successfully introduced or silenced into a cell. 3) Cancer research: Since MIA PaCa-2 is a pancreatic cancer cell line, it is often used in oncology research, especially pancreatic cancer research. GFP expression allows for easier visual analysis of tumor growth and metastasis. 4) Drug screening and toxicity testing: The GFP stable cell line-MIA PaCa-2 can be used to evaluate the effectiveness of potential anti-cancer drugs and their toxicity. A decrease or increase in GFP expression under drug treatment can indicate the effectiveness of the drug. 5) Cell-cell interaction studies: Co-culture of GFP-expressing MIA PaCa-2 cells with other cell types allows the study of cell-cell interactions.
