The PPP1CC gene encodes protein phosphatase 1 catalytic subunit γ (PP1γ), which belongs to the serine/threonine phosphatase family. PP1 plays a key role in a variety of cellular processes, including cell cycle progression, glycogen metabolism, apoptosis, and neuronal signaling. PPP1CC isoforms, particularly PP1γ, are highly conserved and widely expressed in tissues, especially in the testis and brain. It modulates key signaling pathways by dephosphorylating target proteins, thereby regulating their activity.
