The CCAAT/enhancer binding protein beta (CEBPB) gene encodes a basic leucine zipper (bZIP) transcription factor, C/EBPβ, which is a key coordinator of multiple cellular processes. It plays an integral role in regulating key biological functions such as immune and inflammatory responses, cell differentiation (especially in adipocytes, hepatocytes, and myeloid cells), metabolism, cell cycle progression, and cellular senescence. C/EBPβ achieves this function by binding to specific DNA sequences (CCAAT boxes and related motifs) in the promoter/enhancer regions of target genes, thereby positively or negatively regulating the transcription of target genes, often in concert with other transcription factors and co-regulators. Dysregulation of CEBPB has been implicated in a variety of pathological states, including acute phase responses, chronic inflammation, metabolic disorders such as diabetes, and various cancers. In these diseases, it can function as an oncogene or tumor suppressor gene depending on the cellular context and the subtype expressed. It plays a central role in macrophage polarization (M1/M2) and adipogenesis, making it a key target for research in immunology, metabolism, and oncology.
Human CEBPB adenoviral particles are a powerful and widely used recombinant viral vector technology designed to efficiently deliver and express the human CEBPB gene in a wide range of mammalian cells under in vitro and in vivo conditions. These particles are engineered from human adenovirus serotype 5 (Ad5) and rendered replication-defective by deletion of the essential E1 and E3 genes.
