GSTT1 adenovirus

The GSTT1 (glutathione S-transferase Theta 1) gene encodes a key enzyme involved in cellular detoxification and oxidative stress responses. As a member of the glutathione S-transferase (GST) family, GSTT1 catalyzes the conjugation of glutathione (GSH) to electrophilic compounds, thereby promoting the clearance of toxicants, including carcinogens, drugs, and reactive oxygen species (ROS). This gene plays a critical role in protecting cells from DNA damage and maintaining redox homeostasis. Polymorphisms in GSTT1, particularly null genotypes (deletions), are associated with altered detoxification capacity, thereby influencing susceptibility to a variety of diseases, including cancer, neurodegenerative disorders, and cardiovascular disease.

The GSTT1 adenovirus is a recombinant adenoviral vector designed to deliver the GSTT1 gene to target cells for research or therapeutic applications. Adenoviruses are a preferred gene delivery vehicle due to their high transduction efficiency, broad tropism, and ability to infect both dividing and non-dividing cells. GSTT1 adenoviruses are typically constructed by inserting the GSTT1 coding sequence into an adenoviral backbone, replacing viral genes essential for replication (such as the E1/E3 regions) to ensure safety. Following infection, the vector expresses the GSTT1 transgene, enabling functional studies of detoxification pathways, resistance to oxidative stress, and disease mechanisms.
