Homologous repair (HDR) is a natural DNA repair mechanism induced by DNA double-strand breaks (DSB). In the presence of donor DNA during the editing of the target gene by the CRISPR/Cas9 system, the cell will initiate the HDR pathway, replacing new information from the donor DNA with the genetic information (insertion, removal or substitution) in the chromosome.
