Background
Platelet-activating factor (PAF) is a bioactive phospholipid that was originally characterized by its ability to induce platelet aggregation, but was subsequently shown to mediate angiogenesis, inflammation and neural development. The PAF receptor is a G protein coupled receptor that signals through multiple pathways and mediates several cellular responses including cell motility, smooth muscle contraction, and cytokine and leukotriene release.
