Take Advantage of RNAi for Cancer Research
Recently a research paper reported that scientists have found a totally fresh link between cancer growth and gene deletion in certain degree.
With RNAi, the research team discovered previously unknown correlation between genetic deletions and cancerous tumors.
In the past few years, scientists have learned that gene has a much great effect on cancer development than people previously thought. In the new study, the research team used a relatively new technique to suppress gene, which is in vivo RNA interference (RNAi) method.
They used RNAi technology to genetically modify embryo genes without causing damage or altering embryos. By isolating genes, the researchers tried to identify the genes associated with cancers (squamous cell carcinoma) in head and neck tumor growth in mice.
Before starting in vivo RNAi, the researchers had to modify the genetic components and then transplanted them into embryo. The RNAi method is non-invasive and allows more precise changes in genetic material. With this technology, the researchers cut off different genes and learnt more about what happened when mice grew mature and what happened when these genes were missing for tumorigenesis.
